Flufy's Granny Square Blanket @lclarke522

Hey, friends, have a seat. I’ve been thinking lately about the state of my Download Shop. Specifically, does the name “download shop” really tell you what it’s about? And do the descriptions of each item adequately explain what they are and why you’d want to buy them? Are the items priced competitively? And do the eBook PDFs have “personality” between the covers?

Those are a few of the questions I’ve been asking myself, and I think that you can probably guess that I feel each of these areas could use some improvement.

So, I’ve been learning new software, learning how to make a PDF look really spiffy, changing around the way I display my products in the download shop, and tweaking my descriptions to really reflect what each eBook is all about. After all, each of my books is really so much more than a pattern. We’re talking about step-by-step tutorials here with a bunch of words and about a million photos. Ok, maybe not a million, but still, plenty.

And with that in mind, I’ve been taking a good long look at what I am charging for these eBooks (which are, essentially, mini-classes), and in most cases, I think I have been under-valuing their worth. I find it really uncomfortable to raise my prices, or to get all sales-pitchy about my work, but the thing is, if I don’t do it, nobody else will do it for me.

Here’s the thing: I write pretty good how-to books. And if I want to make a significant financial contribution to my family, then I need to start selling them for what they’re worth. I need to stop throwing them in the bargain bin the minute they’re published. Today, I’m taking the first step in that direction, and introducing the newly-upgraded Flufy’s Granny Square Blanket eBook.

The 8-page PDF is redesigned for clarity and aesthetics, and the detail page in the shop has been upgraded with less clutter, more images, and better descriptions. The price has been raised to $5.99, which I think you will agree is competitive for a pattern that also includes a photo-rich step-by-step tutorial.

I would love it, if you felt compelled to purchase a copy. Summer is a great time for granny square blankets! Throw a few balls of yarn in your beach bag and you can whip up a couple of squares while you relax. Squares are so portable. You can work up a nice pile of them all through the summer, and by the time you are ready to begin joining them together, the cooler evenings will be upon us.

Even if you don’t want to buy a copy, I’d love some feedback on the new shop page. Actually, I’d love some feedback on any aspect of this post – eBook pricing, adequate descriptions, whatever!

Oh! And if you previously bought a copy of Flufy’s Granny Square Blanket, I’d be happy to upgrade you to the new version for free. Just drop me a line, and let me know. (If you bought your copy through Ravelry or Craftsy, you should have already been automatically notified by them and given a chance to download the new version.)

Thanks for all of your support and feedback. There are more eBook upgrades to come!
